In Regards the Garden Spider Control the St Andrew’s Spider is a fairly common garden spider that is found in sydney gardens, the St Andrew’s Cross Spider can be recognized by its distinctive web with zigzag bands of silk woven into the shape of a diagonal cross. These zigzag bands of silk strengthen the web and also reflect ultraviolet light, which attracts insects to its web trap.

Distribution:

The St Andrew’s cross spider is found in gardens throughout eastern states of Australia.

Habit:

The St Andrew’s spider web can be found built in shrubs or long grass where it can catch moths,flies, butterflys, bugs and a range of other small insects small insects.It sits in the web day and night which makes it very vonrable to preditors like the mud-dabber wasp and birds.

Appearance:

The Female St Andrews spider are a silvery with yellow, red and black band’s across there abdomen and can be up to 1.5 cm in body length, males are much smaller in size and are reddish brown in color and 5 mm in length.

Bite:

Like all orb-weavers, St Andrew’s Cross Spiders are reluctant to bite. If they do, symptoms may include mild pain with possible numbness and swelling  Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
